Paulson has served as principal at Carmel High School in Carmel since 1995, where he has worked collaboratively with staff, students and parents to build a "team spirit" with the entire community. He played a key role in increasing access to honors courses for all students at the high school and provided them more connections to the community through mentorships, internships and job shadowing. Superintendent Joe Hamilton said he believes Paulson is an "experienced, successful high school principal who can bring together the Homestead High School staff and community to develop programs of excellence which will benefit all students." Raised in Sunnyvale, Paulson graduated from Sunnyvale High School, where he played on the school's basketball team. He later went on to play on the all-coast team at Santa Clara University and received a bachelor's degree in history and master's degree in psychology-pupil personnel-counseling. He started his teaching career at Sunnyvale High School in 1966. He has also taught at Monta Vista High School, served as assistant principal at Homestead High School from 1988-90 and assistant principal at Cupertino High School from 1990 - 95. Paulson will begin at Homestead March 9. |
