Parents interested in how Los Altos schools compare to other California schools can now access a wide array of data on the World Wide Web about all 8,000 of California's K-12 schools.

Developed by state superintendent Delaine Eastin and four educational agencies last year, the Ed-Data Web site now includes fiscal, demographic and performance data in individual school profiles.

Information about state schools can be accessed by typing, http://www.ed-data.k12.ca.us and entering any one of the following: the school's name, its city location, name of the school district, or zip code.

The profile includes information about the school's location, legislative representation, size and demographics, number of students by ethnic group and primary language, and staffing information.

High school profiles also include data about graduates, dropouts and Scholastic Assessment Test scores.
