Town Crier Staff Report

Veteran free-lance writer and longtime Town Crier columnist Mary Cristy will be speaking on the early history of the local newspaper at a March 8 meeting of the Los Altos Hills Historical Society. The meeting is scheduled to begin 3 p.m. at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road.

Cristy moved from New York to California in 1951. After moving to Los Altos, she called on publisher David MacKenzie at the Los Altos Town Crier and asked to be a reporter. Cristy had been writing for literary journals, women's' magazines and religious publications. As well as her own work, she assisted her husband, R.J. De Cristoforo, a free-lance craftsman-writer in preparing his manuscripts for publication.

She has published fiction, poetry, travel articles and profiles in magazines throughout the United States and Canada and has contributed regularly to Bay Area papers. She recently completed a 100,000 word memoir and continues to write a monthly column for the Town Crier.

Cristy will talk about early Town Crier days and writing experiences with husband Cris at the March 8 meeting. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

The May 10 meeting will feature Wolfgang K. Panofsky, renown physicist and director emeritus of Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC).
