SO LONG, STUBBY: Los Altos resident Dana Stubblefield, a standout defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers the past five seasons, signed with the Washington Redskins Feb. 23. The 27-year-old Stubblefield inked a six-year, $36 million contract that includes an $8 million signing bonus. He was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1997, finishing with 15 sacks.

WRESTLING CLUB: The Godfather Wrestling Club meets from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Los Altos High wrestling room. Those age 5 and up are invited to join this group of freestyle wrestlers. There is a $25 fee to join the club, which is run by Egan Intermediate School coach Chris Kay and Los Altos High assistant coach Jim Thrall.
WOOD IS GOOD: The Los Altos High varsity baseball team has an urgent need for old wooden bats that will be used for hitting drills. Anyone who can spare a wooden bat is asked to call Los Altos coach Sandy Wihtol at 969-7627. He will arrange to pick them up.
