Crime prevention meetings in LAH and Los Altos

Two meetings in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills have been scheduled in conjunction with "Crime Prevention Month," this month, to educate residents on better protecting themselves.

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., March 25, at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos, in the multipurpose room. Los Altos police Sgt. Mark Macaulay, community service officer Noreen Sorg and schools resource officer Brent Butler will share crime prevention tips.

Chris Yamaguchi, deputy sheriff with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, will speak on "Preventing Crimes in Our Neighborhoods" 7 p.m., April 2, at the Los Altos Hills Council Chambers, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills. The event is co-sponsored by the town's Safety Committee and "The Year of the Good Neighbor" committee.

with Crime Prevention Month.

Subjects to be addressed at the meetings include Neighborhood Watch programs and how to set up one; home and personal security; burglary and robbery prevention; home safety measures; new "fad" crimes; and the Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (DARE) program used at schools.

Refreshments will be served at both meetings.
