A four-year student at the coeducational, independent school in Exeter, N.H., she is spending spring term in the nation's capital working in the office of Sen. Daniel Moynihan of New York.Ireland, who has earned high honors for academic achievement at Phillips Exeter, is the daughter of Hilary and John Ireland. James Jonathan Wade, a sophomore at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, was named Eagle Scout on March 9 by the Boy Scouts of America. To complete the requirements for this honor, the 15-year-old Los Altos resident built a 36-foot hand rail on the upper trail in Redwood Grove on a July 1996 weekend. Christopher Mar, Los Altos resident and 10th grader at Lynbrook High School, captured first place in the annual Thera Rabinowitch Memorial Awards Competition for pianists at the Palo Alto Cultural Center Feb. 28. Laura Hwang, a 1996 graduate from Los Altos High School, was recently selected through audition to be a full time member of the Chicago Symphony Training Orchestra. Members of the training orchestra are expected to replace retiring musicians of the world-renowned Chicago Symphony. Hwang is a sophomore studying music at Northwestern University. |
