"Dreams and Futures," a summer youth program sponsored by the Mountain View Police Department and the Mountain View and Whisman school districts, received a $10,000 donation from Synopsis Corporation last Thursday.

Mike Ecdau, a detective with the Mountain View Police Department, said the money will be used to purchase uniforms, sports bags and school supplies for students in the program.

"This really helps out," Ecdau said. "Most of the kids come from needy families whose parents can't afford these things." The 2 1/2-week youth program provides enrichment, education and recreational activities to fourth and sixth graders during the summer with year-round follow up. The program received the 1997 Chamber of Commerce Youth of the Year award and was nominated for inclusion in the "Task Force on Youth Violence's Best Practice." For more information, call 903-6387.
