Moffett Field subject of meeting

With the future of Moffett Field still up in the air, the Leagues of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View and Sunnyvale-Cupertino are sponsoring an informational meeting open to the public at 7:30 tonight at the Los Altos Public Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.

Speakers will review alternative plans for the facility.

The city councils of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Cupertino also went on record in opposition to air cargo plans at Moffett.

Nominations for annual service award

Nominations are being accepted for the 35th annual Community Service Award, co-sponsored this year by the Los Altos District of the Peninsula West Valley Association of Realtors and the Los Altos Town Crier.

To be eligible, candidates shall have contributed in a meaningful way to the quality, spirit and character of Los Altos and/or Los Altos Hills.

Deadline for nominations is April 17.

The luncheon honoring this year's recipient is set for May 7 at Michael's at Shoreline restaurant in Mountain View.

'Sizzling Seniors' at club meeting

The Los Altos Federated Woman's Club meeting to be held at 11 a.m. on April 1 at Michael's at Shoreline will feature entertainment by the Sizzling Seniors, a group that rejoices in aerobic dance combinations.

The Federated Woman's Club will elect its officers for the 1998-99 club year. Reservations must be placed by Saturday.

Quota fashion show a 50-year bash

The Mountain View branch of Quota International, which also represents Palo Alto and Los Altos, is combining the 50th anniversary celebration of the club with an annual fashion show, set for noon this Saturday at Michael's at Shoreline Restaurant, 2960 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.

YWCA sponsors Bilingual forum

The YWCA will sponsor a conference on bilingual education from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 4 at the YWCA, 4161 Alma St., Palo Alto.

The conference will address key issues including: What is bilingual education; why do it; does it work; should it be changed; and what is the "English for the Children" initiative."

The conference will feature a variety of perspectives through guest speakers, panelists and audience questions.
