The Spartans opened with a 3-0 win over Los Gatos Friday night. Pitcher Mariah Fike threw a no-hitter and had 11 strikeouts. Cyra Callahan registered two hits for Mountain View. The Spartans are 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the SCVAL De Anza Division.FROM THE BLEACHERS: The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District Board of Trustees approved the purchase of new bleachers for the Los Altos High gym at a meeting held March 10. This project will cost approximately $100,000, according to district officials, and will be funded by the Construction Bond Fund 53. The district's other option was to remove and repair the old bleachers at a cost of about $50,000, which the district deemed "a temporary solution." The new bleachers will be installed over the summer, along with a new gym floor that's part of a seismic acceleration project. Saturday events include a conference on extending vitality and an awards dinner with famed runner Bill Rodgers. On Sunday there will be an 8K run, 5K racewalk, 5K fitness walk, Masters swim, 15-mile bike ride and in-line skating. There will also be a health fair.
