Scholarship applications for the inaugural awarding of the Tom Baer Teachers of the Future Fund are now available. Students from Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook, Monta Vista, Mountain View and Los Gatos high schools are eligible to apply. The deadline is April 18.
The fund is named after Tom Baer, a former Mountain View principal who died from cancer last August. Community members created the fund to honor Baer's commitment to seeing potential in all kids and to his passion for teaching. The fund will provide $1,000-college scholarships to formerly at-risk students who plan to become teachers.
Since fund-raising for the the endowment began in October, the fund has received more than $42,000 from about 250 individuals. For more information, call 940-4620.
