Garratt, who turned down an academic scholarship to Columbia University for one at U.C. San Diego this past fall, received the Wilson award last Thursday. The Woodside resident was honored at the 1998 Celebration of Student Athletes luncheon held in San Diego. During his two years at Foothill, Garratt helped the Owls reach the third round of the state playoffs and averaged 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds per game. For his efforts, Garratt was named honorable mention all-conference after the 1996-97 season. He also was team captain that year. Garratt, a graduate of Woodside High, was just as successful in the classroom. He accumulated a 3.82 grade point average in a rigorous academic program that he hopes will lead to an MBA. In his spare time, Garratt is president and founder of the Woodside Investment Club, volunteers his time officiating at an elementary school and assists with fund-raising at Bethel Hospital. Garratt, who played on the U.C. San Diego basketball team this past season, also enjoys playing golf and carries a 6 handicap. |
