For more information, call 903-6330. Following is a list of special events for the month. Los Altos Senior Center The center offers free tax help for seniors through the American Association of Retired Persons. The tax-aid program, available through Monday, provides free income tax assistance to low or moderate income taxpayers age 60 and older. The volunteers are trained and sponsored by the association in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. Call the Los Altos center for an appointment. For volunteers who would like to help, call Donald Rust, district coordinator, at (408) 246-1752. Thursday: "What's a Reverse Mortgage?" will be presented at 1 p.m. by Gary Anderson of The Anderson Group. Call to reserve a seat. April 16: The St. Williams Senior Lunch Bunch will go to San Francisco to see the Sea Life in San Francisco Bay, Underwater World at Pier 39, and the SS Jeremiah O'Brien. Lunch will be at Delancy Street Restaurant. Cost is $40 per person. Leave at St. Williams parking lot at 9 a.m. and return at 4:45 p.m. Limited seats are available. April 16 & 23: 55 Alive Mature Driving class will be held. Cost is $8. Since there is room for only 30 attendees, call early to sign up. April 17: April birthdays will be celebrated with bingo at 1 p.m., and cake and ice cream to follow at 2 p.m. Sign up at the center if it's your birthday. All are welcomed. April 20: Come experience the wonders of Alaska through our arm chair travel. Tom Hahn will narrate this presentation at 1 p.m. April 24: A luncheon will be held at noon. The featured entertainment, "Old Smoothies Ukulele," will perform at 1 p.m. April 27: George Marotta, Research Fellow of Stanford's Hoover Institute, will discuss at 1 p.m. an upcoming two-week bus trip throughout Italy. This trip, led by Marotta, will be Oct. 26-Nov. 7. Highlights will include the historic and cultural features of the tours in cities from Capri to Venice. To ensure seating, please sign up early for this guest speaker. April 29: Visit the Hurd Beeswax Candle Factory and Beringer Winery in St. Helena, the Gliderport in Calistoga, and enjoy a docent-led tour of the Sharpsteen Museum in Calistoga. Lunch is on your own at the many eateries in Calistoga. Leave at 8:30 am. Cost is $33 per person. Registration for this trip closes on April 17. May 1: In honor of Babe Poe, activities director, there will be cake and coffee served at 10 a.m. Come say farewell to her since this will be her last day at the center. May 6: "Field of Dreams" - a trip to Gilroy's Goldsmith Seeds, the largest wholesale breeder of hybrid flower seeds in the world. The trip will leave at 8:30 a.m. A no-host luncheon will be held at Casa de Fruita. Cost is $28 per person. Early registration is encouraged. May 8: The movie "Mother," featuring Debbie Reynolds, will be shown at 1 p.m. This is a comedy with Mother's Day in mind. Notes: The senior center has a loan closet for sick room items like canes, walkers and wheelchairs. Call 948-7483 to borrow these items. ... Activity Cards are for sale at the senior center for $12 for Los Altos residents. Others pay $17. The card is good until June 1998. ... Selected videos are available for viewing. ... A nurse is available for blood pressure screening from 9:15-11 a.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month for drop-ins. Mountain View Senior Center Sunday: Senior students of tap dancing, singing and theater will perform 2 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $3, available through the Performing Arts box office at (650) 903-6330. Sunday: The movie, "White Squall" will be shown at 2 p.m. Running 129 minutes, "Squall" is rated PG-13. The screening is 50 cents and light refreshments are available. Tuesday: An orientation and tour of the Mountain View Senior Center will take place at 11:15 a.m. Learn more about available classes, special events, social services and other activities offered at the center. April 27: The UCSF Mobile Mammography Screening Program will be at the Mountain View Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For women over 65, Medicare covers the $72 fee for an annual mammogram.
