At first glance the area is visibly vibrant with the popular restaurants Armadillo Willy's and Chef Chu's.

A look behind the scenes reveals narrow streets lined with litter and mud. But there may be a makeover in its future.

For years folks have called the area the Sherwood Triangle. Then they called it the North Entry.

Now the North Entry Plan task force, which has been looking at redevelopment ideas for this part of Los Altos at El Camino Real and San Antonio Road, wants to call it the Sherwood Gateway Area.

On April 20 the 16-member task force will present to the city council and the planning commission the task force visions for the future for that area.

The ask force has been working with a consultant since January to put together ideas about land use, urban design, economic development, traffic and parking for the area, said Dennis Young, chairman of the task force.

The goal of the task force is to create an overall design for revitalization, Young said.

At its March 18 meeting, the task force concentrated on a document of "vision goals and policies," that works through the "guiding things we want to put forth," at the April 20 meeting, Young said.

A "vision drawing" that came out of the three months of meetings shows mixed use, joint parking and many other dreams.

But at this point, "everybody would draw it slightly differently," Young said. "There's lots of hurdles yet."

City Councilman Francis La Poll, who serves on the task force, agreed. "I'm very glad we began the process. We still have a long way to go. So far we've been gathering interested folks to talk about the area."

At the April 20 meeting, at 7 p.m., Room A, in the Hillview Community Center, the task force will get input to see if it is going in the right direction, said Los Altos senior planner Jim Mackenzie.
