Public hearing on Tree Farm changes

The Los Altos Planning Commission will be hold a public hearing on the request of the developers of the Tree Farm project to change the residential portion of their plan from 87 condos to a 131-unit residence inn at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, in the Los Altos City Hall, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

The Tree Farm mixed-use project, located at 4434-4444 El Camino Real on a 4.5-acre parcel, includes plans for a three-story 95,000-square-foot office building facing El Camino Real. In addition the plans called for 87 condos, 8 of which would be affordable housing.

Now the project planners are asking to build a 131-unit residence inn instead of condos. They would still build the seven below-market-rate condos.

Understanding on Moffett

NASA/Ames and the cities of Mountain View and Sunnyvale agreed to team up last week to find non-aviation uses and potential revenue sources for Moffett Field.

The news appears encouraging to residents who feared the noise impacts of air flight options, such as the dreaded day and night air cargo operations. Both Los Altos and Los Altos Hills city councils, along with Mountain View and Sunnyvale, drafted resolutions opposing commercial aviation at Moffett.

Potential uses considered to make up NASA/Ames' annual $3.5 million deficit include an air space museum, large air shows and high-tech tenants.
