Public hearing held on residence inn

At a Los Altos Planning Commission meeting last Thursday, planning commissioners approved a revised use permit for the Tree Farm project to include an extended stay inn, said Los Altos senior planner Jim Mackenzie.

The commissioners dead-locked on an amendment to the zoning code concerning hotel/motel regulations and have sent that along to the city council without a recommendation.

The commissioners gave direction to the applicants to make the building exterior more compatible with a residential look. The Tree Farm project is located at 4434-4444 El Camino Real.

"It was a very civil public hearing with people speaking for and against," Mackenzie said.

2nd living unit hearing Thursday

The Los Altos Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing during its meeting to consider revisions to the city's second living unit regulations at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Los Altos City Hall Chambers, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

"This could affect all single-family properties in Los Altos," said Los Altos senior planner Jim Mackenzie.

The Planning Commission will be making a recommendation to the city council, tentatively scheduled for May 12.

GovGuide helps government access

Smart Valley Inc., a San Mateo-based nonprofit organization, recently launched GovGuide, a new online guide that streamlines access to government services in Silicon Valley. By connecting people with the right departments and resources specific to their needs, the guide provides an easy-to-use tool for those seeking government services in Silicon Valley.

GovGuide, located at http://www.govguide.org, matches users with the right agency in the right jurisdiction - city, county or state - in a seamless fashion, said Suzanne Lee, spokeswoman for Smart Valley.
