Blach students designing volunteer Web page, offering contest

Town Crier Staff Report

April has been designated Volunteer Month by the Year of the Good Neighbor committee. Taking this to heart, 40 students at Blach Intermediate School in Los Altos are creating a Web site to promote volunteer opportunities for kids, teens, and adults in the community. They are contacting non-profit organizations and creating pages describing interesting volunteer jobs in a wide range of areas.

To promote their Web site and generate interest in volunteering, Blach students are running a contest for the elementary school classes. To win the contest, a class must choose an environmentally helpful activity that they will implement if they win. Entries will be judged for originality, usefulness and difficulty. The judges will be the Blach students who created the Web site.

Only grades K-6 in Los Altos, Mountain View or Palo Alto may enter. First place gets a pizza party donated by Skip's Pizza, second place prize will be a root beer float party and the third prize is an ice cream party. The deadline is May 1.

Visit the Web site and use the entry form there. The address is: www.blach.losaltos.k12.ca.us/cclub/volunteer_contest/welcome.html
