Lara B. Waldenstorm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Waldenstrom of Los Altos, and Lara Windett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Windett of Mountain View, were named to the dean's honor roll at the University of the Pacific for maintaining grade point averages higher than 3.5 during the fall semester.
Los Altos High School students Liane S. Beckman, Jinyoung Choi, Drew Grewal, Robert Jahn, Bonnie Wagner and Bradley Wolfe recently ranked among the top 2 percent of all students who participated in the Ninth annual Tandy Technology Scholars program. About 16,820 schools nationwide participated in the event. James Whitesell earned Outstanding Math/Science/Computer Science Student National Honorable Mention.
Alexander Lam of Los Altos Hills was recognized as a finalist in the 1998 competition for the National Merit Scholarship Award. Lam is a senior at Los Altos High School.
Holly Beth Freifeld of Los Altos earned her doctorate in philosophy and geography from the University of Oregon at the end of the winter term.
Michael A. Gladstone and Jason S. Smith of Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 30 recently received the Eagle Award in a ceremony held at Christ Episcopal Church. Gladstone planned and led the renovation of a baseball field at Oak School, and Smith planned and led the rebuilding of picnic tables at Santa Rita School. Both have been members of Troop 30 since 1991.
Warren Wu of Los Altos was among the 1,906 students to graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign last January. Wu earned a Phd.
Los Altos resident Brett Parker was among the 14 members from Southern Methodist University student chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers who participated in the 1998 Mini-Baja West Competition this month, where more than 55 teams participated. Parker helped build two dune buggies for the competition's grueling four-hour desert road race.
St. Simon students Travis Martin and Katie Ambrose were named essay contest winners during D.A.R.E. graduation ceremonies at St. Simon School recently. Max Kellog and Katie Paquette were honored as "Top D.A.R.E." students.
Menlo School students Matthew Joy and Jessica Berman, both of Los Altos, were among the 26 students to received the Recognition Awards at the Rotary Club of Menlo Park.
Joy was nominated for his outstanding effort in jazz music and Berman was recognized for her outstanding effort in choral music.
