I truly believe that the purpose of our town council is to serve the community's interests. However, it has come to my attention that some members of our council intend to support an off-road pathways proposal that does not appear to represent the majority interests of the Los Altos Hills residents. The proposal in question would allow for the creation of new off-road pathways over land that is still undeveloped. In my opinion, this proposal discounts reasonable freedom for many homeowners in a way that benefits only a few. The creation of these pathways would also cause unnecessary disruption to the tranquillity of our wildlife and natural surroundings. Today, more than 93 miles of pathways traverse Los Altos Hills. Additional pathways would not only hinder the privacy and safety of residents, but also the ability of residents to determine the best use of their land and to make home improvements. I would prefer to see our community's money being spent to maintain and protect existing pathways or, better yet, to improve the quality of our children's education. John T. Chambers President and Chief Executive Officer Cisco Systems Picketing not directed at State St. store If you have strolled down State Street, past the entrance to Design & Interiors, you may have encountered a union picket line or more recently, two men handing out leaflets in front of the store. As a longstanding merchant in downtown Los Altos, it is the desire of Design & Interiors to set the record straight and inform our customers and community of the simple facts of this situation. The information contained in the leaflets is misleading. Here are the facts: This is a union dispute between the carpenter's union and Kolkka manufacturers, a local furniture supplier to Design & Interiors. Design & Interiors is not involved in this dispute in any way. In an effort to exert further pressure on Kolkka to unionize, the carpenter's union is picketing and distributing leaflets at the locations of all Kolkka dealers. The language in the flier leads one to believe that the owners of Kolkka also own or have an interest in Design & Interiors. This is false. The only relationship existing between Kolkka and Design & Interiors is that of manufacturer to dealer, respectively. Design & Interiors carries Kolkka products because they complement our many offerings of fine quality furnishings and because there continues to be a high customer demand for Kolkka furniture. Design & Interiors has proudly served the local community for over 16 years. We believe in providing our customers with the highest quality products along with superior service. We wish to take this opportunity to apologize to any individual or business for the inconvenience this situation may have caused. Bill Puccetti Owner, Design & Interiors Los Altos |
