Information meeting for Music For Minors

Music For Minors, a nonprofit organization founded in 1975, is seeking volunteers in Los altos for its music docent program in the elementary schools.

An information meeting will be held 7:15-8:30 tonight at the Los Altos Town Crier's Community Room, 138 Main St. Information will include ways that volunteers can become docents.

Docents visit classrooms once a week during the school year, sharing songs and games, and music appreciation. Docents do not have to be trained musicians to participate.

Composting class offered at Hillview

Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, in coordination with the Santa Clara County Home Composting Education Program, are offering a free composting workshop 10 a.m. to noon, this Saturday, at Hillview Community Center, Room A, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

Mountain View community yard sale

The City of Mountain View is bringing back its popular community yard sale for the third consecutive year from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Rengstorff Park, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave.

The event will feature live entertainment, food for sale as well as an extensive garage sale. Parking and entrance are free; however, a fee is required to rent a sale space.

Cost for reserving a spot varies from $5 to $11, determined by whether or not a table is included. Call the recreation division for more information at 903-6405.

St. Joseph International Festival

St. Joseph Parish again welcomes the public to its 12th annual International Festival, set for Friday through Sunday at St. Joseph School, 1120 Miramonte Ave., in Mountain View.

Featured will be carnival rides, games and international food and music. Festival hours are 4-10 p.m. Friday, May 8; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 9; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 10.

Prices vary for games and rides, but admission and entertainment are free. Advance ticket purchases are available through St. Joseph School by calling 961-1531, or stopping by the school.

Girl Scouts car wash

Members of Girl Scout Car Troop 321 are holding a car wash 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday to pay for a trip to Hawaii in August and to entertain friends from Ketchikan, Alaska, in June.

The cost is $5 per car, and the car wash will be held at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave., at Foothill Expressway.
