Farmers' market moves to Sunday

Soon the Loyola Corners Farmers' Market will be opening on Sundays for the summer season.

At the Los Altos City Council meeting April 28, the council approved a change of day for the market, from Saturday to Sunday, and a change in hours.

The new hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vendors beginning their set up at 9 a.m.

The market will be held in the Bank of America parking lot at 901 Fremont Ave.

Organizers expect the market to open May 17.

Hearing Tuesday on 2nd living units

The Los Altos City Council will hold a public hearing to consider changes to the Los Altos zoning requirements for second living units at its 7:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday, in the city hall chambers, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

The planning commission has recommended that the minimum lot size for a second living unit be 10,000 square feet, that the square feet of the unit be allowed to increase as the lot size increases and that all second living units be rented at below market rates.

The city's affordable second living unit ordinance expired in April 1997 after a two-year trial period.

The city's regulations for affordable second living units was a key factor for the state to find that the city's housing plan complied with state law, said Jim Mackenzie, senior planner with Los Altos.

Vehicles recovered, suspects in custody

Police have recovered two stolen vehicles and have two suspects in custody in connection with the rash of car break-ins and vehicle thefts in Los Altos over the weekend of April 18.

Los Altos Police Sgt. Mark Macaulay said the suspects, boys aged 15 and 16, were arrested by officers in the San Mateo County Sheriff's department following a four-day crime spree.

Police are creating an inventory of items stolen.
