Students experience arts hands on

Artists from throughout the Bay Area will join forces May 16 for the 13th annual Hands on the Arts program. Sponsored by the city of Sunnyvale and the Arts Council of Santa clara County, the event is the largest and oldest art festival of its kind.

The event is especially for school-aged children. More than 50 professional artists will work and share skills and teach crafts to children. Workshops. performing and visual arts including poetry, sculpture, music, dance, painting.

The event is free. Workshops cost $3 for children. with a maximum of $10 per family. For more information, call (408) 730-7350.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 East Remington Avenue in Sunnyvale.

Workshop teaches campaign skills

The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Mountain View and City of Mountain View are sponsoring a two-evening workshop on how to run a campaign for city council or school board from 6:30 to 9:30 tonight and from 7 to 9:30 p.m. June 10 at the Council Chambers and Plaza Conference Room at the Mountain View City Hall. Tuition for both classes is $15.

The workshops will cover topics such as, what it's really like to be a council member, how to navigate the ocean of forms and legalities, nuts and bolts of running a successful camping and how to raise money, and media relations. The Mountain View City Council will have four seats and three local school boards will have a total of six seats in the next election.

KFJC holds record swap

Used reord dealers will be filling up the main dining hall of the Foothill College campus for the next KFJC Record Swap from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17. The event will also feature vendors selling video tapes, rock memorabilia and other music-related merchandise. A $2 donation at the door will benefit KFJC. Parking is $2.

A record swap hotline has been set up to assist those looking for certain recordings, recording artists or peculiar musical genres. The hotline number is 949-7555.
