Our take on the June 2 state propositions

Prop. 219: Ballot Measures. YES. This prohibits any statewide initiative from excluding or including any county or other local jurisdiction based on voter approval. This results from Prop. 172 in 1993, which raised sales taxes for public safety, but excluded the benefits from counties whose electorate voted against the tax. The result was, these counties were being taxed and not receiving anything. Prop. 219 acts as a safeguard against this happening again.
