Interim manager made a big difference

printer friendly version Print this story

Not often does an interim official make a noticeable difference. A notable exception is Bill Zaner.

Zaner, who finished his stint as interim city manager for Los Altos yesterday, made a major positive impact on city operations during his approximate three-month stay.

Zaner's clear thinking and big-picture approach helped steer city officials in the right direction and avoid time-consuming detours. His suggestion for full funding on the Edith-San Antonio park, for example, prompted a good council decision that saved months of delays on implementation of a landscape plan. He also helped expedite work on the playing fields at the city-owned 401 Rosita property.

It is our sense that new city manager Phil Rose, who starts today, will pick up where Zaner left off.
