Due to the Town Crier's Monday night press deadline, results from yesterday's election will not be published until the June 10 edition.
Of possible interest to Los Altos were the county races for sheriff, county assessor and district attorney. Los Altos resident George Kiehle, a Democrat, was on the ballot challenging Anna Eshoo for her 14th Congressional District seat.
Kiehle, an airline pilot, acknowleged his chances of defeating Eshoo were slim, but vowed to run against her again in two years. Also running against Eshoo were Bud Manzler of Cupertino and John Haugen of Palo Alto.
A slew of controversial propositions also awaited the expected light turnout of voters at the polls, including Proposition 227, the English for the Children Initiative that would, in effect, scrap bilinugal education programs as we currently know them.
Also of particular interest to schools backers was Proposition 223, which sought to prohibit school districts from spending more than 5 percent on administration.
