Monica Lodge will return as Los Altos High athletic director after all.
Principal David Brazer, who said in April he needed "a different person in that leadership role," decided last month to retain Lodge as athletic director.
Brazer said he changed his mind after a series of lengthy discussions with Lodge and a meeting with the Los Altos High Athletic League.
The league - made up of Los Altos athletes - came to Lodge's defense soon after Brazer's initial decision. After talking with league members, Brazer said he came away with "a different perspective" about the job Lodge has done.
Talks between Brazer and Lodge soon followed, and the two eventually worked out an agreement.
"Each of us made moves to build confidence in the other," Brazer said.
Added Lodge: "We talked a lot. We communicated what problems there may have been, and we're working them out."
While department heads are typically appointed for three years, Brazer and Lodge declined to comment on the length of her latest appointment.
"Part of our agreement includes not discussing that," Brazer said. "She's back in the fall and that's all I will say."
Lodge said she's excited about continuing her job as athletic director, a post she's held the past six years.
"It's a nice thing for the program and myself," Lodge said. "I'm putting the whole ordeal behind me, and I look forward to a good year next year."
Wrestling coach Nick Testa, one of several Los Altos coaches who supported Lodge's return, is relieved to have the situation resolved.
"I'm really happy to hear Monica's coming back," Testa said. "Give David credit for listening and not closing the door."
Lodge said she would like to thank those who stood behind her.
"I really appreciate all the support I received from students, parents, coaches and alumni," Lodge said.
