Writings by the following Egan students were published in the Stanford Anthology's third edition book: Alisa Arunamata, Amy Barth, Ross Bernstein, Ali Burger, Diana Combs, Steph Costa, Ashley Duval, Bobby Freeman, Valerie Sun, Charity Ting, Andy Wiener, Michelle Ha, Masha Hass, Adina Hill, Wenjun Huang, Lora Oehlberg, Robin Quill, Britt Raffel, Shah'Ada Shaban, Jelisa Thomas, Jackie Vojvoda and Bonnie Chen.Mary Mason, president of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Board of Trustees, was recently elected president of the Board of Directors of California Community College Trustees. She was elected and sworn in May 17 at the close of the statewide trustees conference in San Diego. Before her election in 1991 to the Foothill board, Mason served for nine years on the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District Board of Trustees. Diana Combs, a student at Egan Intermediate School in Los Altos, and Diamond McMillian, a student at Crittenden Middle School in Mountain View, were recently honored at the Young Leaders Luncheon sponsored by the County Office of Education. Students who scored above the mean on the College Board's Standard Achivement Test I: Reasoning Test, were honored May 9 at Mills College in Oakland during the college's annual Talent Search that recognizes students with exceptional academic talents. Among those honored were Los Altos residents, Angeline Baecker, Charles Callaghan, Francesca Centofanti, Eric Cheng, Jeffrey Chiu, Justin Hsia, Doris Huang, Matthew Jurka, Zachary Keats, George Kwon, Beryl Lee, John Legall, Stephanie Lin, Andrew Moll, Melissa Ng, Samia Rogers, Katherine Santoso, Julia Sorensen, Michael Susman, Emily Williams and Rachel Zeldin; Los Altos Hills residents, Sara Bowling and Ferah Munshi; and Mountain View residents, Hannah Cao, Eric Miller, Kristen Mulenburg, Amanda Reed, Craig Roddin, Kevin Roy, Elizabeth Wood and Courtney Yin. Colleen Murphy, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Dods of Los Altos, was recently named a United States National Award Winner in German Language studies by the U.S. Achievement Academy. The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school graduates annually. More than 70 college-bound graduates from the Santa Clara County's Advancement Via Individual Determination Program were honored last month at a recognition ceremony in San Jose. The program is designed to inspire initially underachieving high school students to go on to college through college-prep courses, tutoring and motivational counseling. Those honored from Los Altos High School included, Mary Anne Aguinaldo, Ana Armenta, Juan Aviles, Sharon Bautista, Beverly Carino, Vernee Hunter, Marissa Panem, Hector Serrano and Beverly Reyes. Those honored from Mountain View High School included, Angel Verena, Erica Breaux, Chandra Cummings-Love, Jason Davalos, Eddie Dewitt, Julie Esguerra, Glorine Espejo, Julio Fabian, Zulma Flamenco, David Gaskins, Luis Mercado, Marianne Mesias, Paul Mollinedo, Cuong Ngo, Elena Padilla, Billy Tran and Renee Trujillo. Emily Jen, a student at Los Altos High School, was among the six students who recently won "Most Valuable Student" scholarships totaling $8,500 from the Palo Alto Elks Lodge. Cub Scout Den 6 of Springer School's Pack 36 completed its second year of Cub Scouting and achieved rank of "Bear" Scout. Throughout the year, Den 6 participated in lots of activities and field trips, including visits to the Los Altos Police Department, Home Depot, the Environmental Education Center at San Francisco National Wildlife Refuge. Den 6 includes Kyle Tachibana, Jeffrey Paine, Jeff Gray, Stuart Tuvey, Kevin Ford, Christopher James and Tyler Olsen. |
