The Los Altos Town Choir will be featured in an "Independence Day Salute" concert, to be aired on cable television Channel 26's "New Horizons" program.

The approximately 30-minute concert, featuring vocal renditions of classic patriotic tunes, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Fridays, beginning this Friday, July 3 and July 10, and 10:30 p.m. Sundays, beginning this Sunday, June 28, July 5 and July 12.

According to music director Johnny Johnson, the performances from the 21 choir members are good, despite only three rehearsals.

Songs covered include "Grand Old Flag," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," and "The Star Spangled Banner."

There's also a recitation of the U.S. Constitution, set to music, and, for a lighter touch, "50 States in Rhyme."

The performances are given against a backdrop of the American flag, with members of the choir dressed in red, white and blue.

The Town Choir rehearses for several projects throughout the year, including the holiday tree-lighting ceremonies in the Community Plaza in downtown Los Altos.

Membership is open to all local prospective singers.
