Davis on June 20 with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. She interned at Apple Computer Inc. in Elk Grove as a corporate fitness specialist. She plans to continue in this field.Amanda Winzler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter F. Rusch of Los Altos, recently graduated cum laude from Peabody College with a bachelor's degree in science. Victoria Sheue-Yi Pao, daughter of Raymond and Rosalie Pao of Los Altos Hills, received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Brown University last month. Christopher Chase Gerrish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen C. Gerrish of Los Altos, graduated from Rhodes College last month with a bachelor's degree. Mr. Gerrish is a Mountain View High graduate. Lori Kohan of Los Altos graduated in May from the College of Notre Dame with master's and bachelor's degrees in counseling psychology with an emphasis in marriage, family and child counseling. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma, a national scholastic honors society. Erik Neumann, son of Prosper and Mary Lou Neumann of Los Altos, graduated from Colby College May 24 with a bachelor's degree in anthropology. Brodie L. Meyer of Los Altos was among the 3,000 students to receive a scholarship from the University of Idaho for having an excellent academic record and outstanding leadership abilities. Meyer plans to attend the university this fall. Kristine Michelle Livsey, daughter of Douglas and Suzanne Harwood of Los Altos, received her law degree May 17 from the McGeorge School of Law. A graduate of Pinewood High School, she received her bachelor's and master's degrees from San Jose State University. Livsey was named to the dean's honor list for the academic school years of '95-'96 and '97-98. Students in kindergarten to grade six at Almond Elmentary School honored prinicipal Linda Eckols at an appreciation day last month. After seven years as prinicpal at Almond, Eckols will serve as prinicpal Loyola Elementary School in the fall. The day included a student concert and a greater-than-life-size card that all of the students signed. Los Altos residents Fred Ho, Teresa Kuo and Monica Leung represented the Palo Alto American Red Cross last April at a national conference in Salt Lake City where they accepted the George M. Elsey Award for outstanding involvement of youth in 1998. Derek T. Liu of Los Altos was named a President's Scholar for the entering class of 1998 at California State University, Long Beach. Liu is a National Merit scholar from HOmestead High School, having achieved a 3.3 grade point average whileearning distrinction in U.S. history, math analysis and chemistry and participating in the National Forensics League, track and field, Tommorro'w Leaders Today, the LInk Crew and The Epitaph. As a scholar, he will recieve full payment of all school costs. Richard K. Lyons, son of Ida Lyons of Los Altos, was recently recognized as a Distringuished Teacher at the University of California, Berkeley. A 1979 graduate of Los Altos High School, Lyons has been an associate professor at the Haas School of Business since 1993. He received his bachelor's degree from Berkeley and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Both students and colleagues describe Lyons as an enthusiastic and attentive teacher. Douglas Surfleet, son of Susan Surfleet of Los Altos, was named to the dean's list at Rose-Hulman Instittute of Technology for the winter session. Megan Slocum, daughter of Anthony and Ann Slocum of Los Altos, was received a citation from Dartmouth College for her outstanding academic achievement during the past winter term. She participated in the college's foreign study program this spring, where she studied Spanish in Barcelona, Spain. Patrick Quaid, son of Richard and Karen Quaid of Mountian View, was elected vice president of the Luther College Congregation Council for the 1998-99 academic year. Los Altos High School students Robert E. Jahn and James B. Whitesell were among the Bank of America Achievement Awards Finalists last May. Jahn was a finalists in liberal arts, and Whitesell was a finalist in scinece and mathematics. |
