Whitney Hannon of Los Altos Hills has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to spend the 1998-1999 academic year in Spain. She received the grant to conduct basic science and clinical research in the area of skin diseases.

Scott Aston of Los Altos has been initiated into the Beta Theta Pi International Fraternity by the colony at Pepperdine University.

Tanya Gulesserian of Los Altos received a juris doctor degree during Vermont Law School's commencement ceremony on May 16.

Elisa Haidt of Los Altos received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Washington University in St. Louis at the university's 137th Commencement ceremony on May 15.

Karen Lombardi of Los Altos Hills has been named to the Claremont McKenna College Dean's List for the 1998 spring semester.

David Singh Grewal of Los Altos Hills recently graduated magna cum laude in economics from Harvard College.

Wei Liu, Daniel Wenger, Christine Abraham, and Alex Wheatley of Bullis Purissima School in Los Altos Hills, have been selected as the first place winner of the "Best Innovative Idea for Sustainable Transportation in the 21st Century" competition sponsored by the Office of International Programs at the Federal Highway Administration.

Brent C. Swanson of Los Altos graduated from Lewis and Clark College on May 3. Swanson earned a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics.

Kimberly Kwei, 16, a junior at Los Altos High School, Jeanne Prieto, 19, an international business major at San Jose State University, and Kotaro Nakagawa, 11, a seventh grader at Taylor Middle School in Millbrae, all students of Mountain View flute instructor Polly Moller, have been selected to perform at the Music Teacher's Association of California State Convention. They were selected as a result of performing exceptionally in the Certificate of Merit Evaluations.
