So far the bill has passed the State Assembly Transportation Committee to designate that portion of road as "Military Servicewomen's Memorial Highway." "Many Americans do not realize how much women have given to our nation's armed services," Lempert said. "It may be only a small gesture of appreciation, but I believe dedicating a sign in honor of women veterans on a highway is fitting and much deserved." After resolution passes, in order for the signs to be made and placed onto the ground, non-state funds must be raised and provided to the Department of Transportation. The bill will go before the State Senate and be considered before the legislature adjourns on Sept. 1. "I am unaware of any signs that recognize the sacrifice of America's servicewomen," Lempert said. Private funds are being raised.
