His father, who graduated from Ohio State in 1968, placed the doctoral hood on Matt as part of the ceremony. Matt graduated from Los Altos High School in 1989 adn received his bachelor's degree from the Unversity of California at Davis in 1994. He will join his father in practice in Mountian View.Keith Patrick Casey of Los Altos was among the 833 students to graduate from Southern Oregon University during the past year. Casey earned a master's degree in environmental education. He participated in graduation ceremonies June 13. Middlebury College senior Julia L. Shreve, daughter of Joanna and William Shreve of Los Altos Hills, received the 1998 Middlebury College Public Sercie Leadership Award. She was one of six students selected from 34 nominees for the award, and was honored with a Public Service Leadership "Plaque of Appreciation" at a special dinner on May 5. Katie Trescott, a fifth grader at Oak Elementary School, was among the 44 students to receive a scholarship to attend Space Camp California in Mountain View. The scholarship was awarded as part of an agreement with the U.S. Space Camp Foundation, which provides 50 scholarships annually. Steven T. Merchant of Los Altos Hills was recently re-elected to serve a three-year term as trustee at Oregon State University. Melinda D. Parker of Los Altos and Trevor R. Menagh of Mountain View were named to the honor roll at Washington State University for the spring semester. The Silicon Valley Charity Ball Foundation recently awarded Los Altos resident Emily Jen with a scholarship for outstanding services to others. Jen, a graduate of Los Altos High School, has provided outstanding service to the American Red Cross, Palo Alto Area Chapter. She has taught more than 100 children the basic skills of bicycle and fire safety, first aid, rescue breathing and CPR. Jen will attend the University of California at Los Angeles this fall. Heidi Carol Fernandez of Los Altos was among the 5,800 Purdue University students who earned academic honors for the spring 1998 semester. |
