El Camino accreditation achieved

El Camino Hospital received three years accreditation, the maximum possible, from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, which reviewed the hospital on June 22-23.

A total of 12 surveyors from the commission, the California Department of Health and the California Medical Association's Institute for Medical Quality reviewed El Camino's operations. Accreditation from the commission is a requirement of the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs and many managed health care programs.

"We were very pleased to be able to put our self in shape to be looked at by the joint commission in the short time we had of just 18 months," said Richard Warren, hospital administrator and chief executive officer. Warren's administration took over in January 1997, when the hospital returned to El Camino Hospital District control.

A full report on the commission's findings will be available in approximately 90 days.
