FORCE FIELD: The Mountain View-Los Altos Force, an under-19 girls soccer team, lost in the quarterfinals of the regional tournament last month in Albuquerque, N.M. The Force fell 6-0 to defending champ Colorado on June 25. The Force, which went 3-1 in the tourney, appeared at the regional for the first time in team history. Los Altos residents on the team included Kari Baumel, Lindsay King, Sara LaBoskey, Devon and Lauren Miller, plus coach Russ Childrey.

TEE OFF ON HUNGER: The ninth annual Second Harvest Food Bank Golf Tournament takes place Monday at the Stanford Golf Course. Proceeds benefit Second Harvest, which helps feed about 104,000 people each month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. For reservations and more information about the tourney, call (408) 266-8866.

YOUNG ILLUSTRATED: Recent Gunn High graduate James Young appeared in the June 29 issue of Sports Illustrated for his stellar performance in badminton. Young was featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the magazine for posting an 81-0 career record and claiming three section titles.

POOL PLAY: The City of Mountain View's recreation division is offering several Family Swim Nights this summer at Rengstorff Pool. Swim nights go from 7:15-8:30 p.m. and are free to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For times and more information, call 903-6331.

GET WET: The Los Altos-Mountain View Aquatic Club is offering a professionally coached summer swim program for ages 6 and up. The programs run from June 15 to Aug. 7, with practices at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills and Eagle Park in Mountain View.
