Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School STAR test results

Town Crier Staff Report

The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District recently released the Stanford 9 student test scores from every grade level at Los Altos, Mountain View, Alta Vista and Moffett schools.

The State Board of Education administered the Stanford 9 test last spring to students in grades 2-11 in all of California's public schools, including students who speak limited English and some students enrolled in special education programs. The assessment test was part of the state's Standardized Testing and Reporting Program, and the first standardized test to be administered statewide in three years.

The test covered reading, spelling, writing, math, social studies and science.

Scores are based on a national sample, with the 50th percentile being average.

District students scored above the 50th percentile in every subject tested. In grade 9, 57 percent of the students districtwide scored above the 50th percentile in the vocabulary and comprehension portions of the test; 74 percent scored higher than the average in math; 71 percent scored above average in social science.

In grade 10, 61 percent of the students scored above the average in math, language and mechanics; 64 percent of the students scored above the 50th percentile in science; and 55 percent scored above the average in reading.

In grade 11, 52 percent of the students scored above the 50th percentile in comprehension and 71 percent scored above the average in social science.

The following test results represent the average student percentile in each grade level at every school.
