As project head of the Key Club, Chong was responsible for coordinating all of the club's activities. Those included the Holiday Shopping Spree for kids whose families could not afford to buy gifts themselves and a Valentine's Day Reading, where club members donated time to read to students at Slater School in Mountain View. Chong said she did whatever was necessary "to get the project done." The upcoming senior was among the students recognized by the student body during the past academic year for their outstanding achievements. Chong also served on the School Improvement Council; was a member of the Senior Care Associate of the Community Services Agency, where she volunteered two hours a week assisting two senior citizens; and worked in the Tutorial Center assisting her classmates: An accomplished pianist, Chong has completed all 10 levels of the Certificate of Merit Examination for Piano. She played at last year's Senior Awards Night. Chong said she plans to attend Stanford University in the fall of 1999 to pursue a career in biology, with an emphasis on DNA technology. |
