This week, Glenda Burgess introduces her first novel, "Loose Threads," with a 7:30 p.m. Thursday booksigning at Heintzelman's Bookstore, 205 State St., Los Altos. Set in embassies around the world in the 1980s, "Loose Threads" is a story of Ellen d'Ullay and her search for herself. With passion and wit, Ellen travels through life from a young woman to her 50s, living a dazzling lifestyle. She eventually realizes she has nothing but fool's gold in her hands. The novel tells of Ellen's heartbreak as she realizes her career is flawed and cannot make up for the loneliness of a life of constant motion. Burgess explained the book's main theme. "No one can have it all, and our choices define who we are," Burgess said. "One way to see who you've become is to look carefully at your life. It's also about connection, because ours is a contemporary culture continually on the move and it's become harder than ever to connect. "I wrote a story for anyone who crept into their own life without a precise sense of location and faced up to it," Burgess said. Burgess lives in Los Altos with her husband, a software industry executive and fine art photographer, and their two young children. |
