A fifth-grade team at Bullis-Purissima School in Los Altos Hills recently received first place in the "Most Innovative Idea for Sustainable Transportation in the 21st Century" competition.
Team members Wei Wei Liu, Daniel Wenger, Christine Abraham and Alex Wheatley received a plaque and a $500 school grant to fund future transportation curriculum.
Sponsored by the Norman Y. Mineta International Institute for Surface Transportation Policy Studies, the contest was designed to encourage interest, imagination, creativity and to educate students from across the nation in the field of sustainable transportation, organizers said.
The institute developed a curriculum, conducted a nationwide videoconferenced symposium and organized the competition.
