FAIR PLAY: Los Altos High graduate Lorrie Fair started for the U.S. women's soccer team that beat China 2-0 to win the 1998 Goodwill Games. A record crowd of 11,307 watched the U.S. grab the gold July 27 in Uniondale, N.Y. The game was also televised on TBS.

RAISING THE FLAG: The Mountain View Recreation Division is offering a four-on-four Flag Football Tournament Saturday at Crittenden Park in Mountain View. The open tournament will be similar to the NFL Air-It-Out Competition. Cost is $125 per team and each squad is guaranteed at least three games. For more information, call Eric Schill at 903-6404.

FROM THE GREENS: Longtime Peninsula football coach Ben Parks will host his second annual Celebrity Golf Invitational at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Stanford Golf Course. Entry fee is $300 per person and includes lunch, golf, a cocktail reception, awards, auctions, contests and more. Invited guests include former NFL players Ronnie Lott, Keena Turner, Jim Plunkett, Darren Nelson and Los Altos resident Jack "Moose" Myers. Proceeds benefit Coach Parks Charities, Inc., which gives money to needy people throughout the state. For more information, call 363-1669.

MORE GOLF: The Young Life Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 31 at Los Altos Golf and Country Club. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $195 and includes lunch, a barbecue dinner and prizes. Entry forms are available at the Los Altos Golf Shop on Main Street or by calling Young Life at 813-5290.
