The Los Altos Hills Town Council has decided to delay awarding a contract for work to complete a Fremont Road pathway on both sides of the street. The decision came at a special council meeting held Aug. 4 to deal with several pending contracts.

According to Planning Director Curtis Williams, bids for the pathway project came in at $100,000 more than had been estimated.

According to associate engineer Sheryl Proft's report, the project involves installing a new pathway along the easterly side of Fremont Road from Arastradero Road to Alexander Place and rehabilitation of the existing pathway from Alexander Place to Concepcion Road. A missing section of pathway located between two existing sections across from Bullis-Purissima Elementary School would also be constructed as part of the project.

Council members agreed to advertise the project for bid again in the spring.

"Now is a very busy time for contractors," Williams said. "The unusual weather this year caused a lot of damage and also shortened the construction season. We hope we can get a better deal in the spring."

Williams said there are no negative implications in delaying the project.

The council did grant the remaining storm drain easements on the La Paloma Drainage Basin Storm Drain Improvement Project on Aug. 4.

The council awarded a contract for the La Paloma Drainage Basin Storm Drain Improvement Project in the amount of $133,049 to Stoloski & Gonzales, Inc. It also awarded a $700,887 contract for pavement management and storm drain improvements to C.F. Archibald Paving, Inc. Both firms were low bidders on the respective projects.

The next council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 19, with the public hearing portion beginning at 7 p.m.
