The $399,000 project, approved by the Los Altos City Council at its July 14 meeting, will begin Aug. 26, Bane said. This is one day after the original completion date of Aug. 25. The project will start with repair work by "digging out the failed areas" of the road, Bane said. The first part of the repaving, which will begin with the two end portions of San Antonio Road - Foothill Expressway to Almond Avenue and El Camino Real to Portola Avenue - is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 29 and 30, Bane said. The job was bid with some work to be on weekends to avoid weekday "traffic snarls," Bane said. Park plan update, Edith, San Antonio The construction plans for the new park at the corner of Edith Avenue and San Antonio Road in Los Altos are 75 percent complete, said Bruce Bane, Los Altos director of public works. And soon the plans will be going out to bid. Bane said he expects bids to come in during September, and they are scheduled to go to the city council for awarding a contract at the council's Oct. 13 meeting. Construction work should begin on the park in the latter part of October, Bane said. San Jose-based landscape consultant Jay Beals is putting together the plans for the bids. He also created the park design that the council approved after working with a city-appointed task force last fall. Hospital Board election update Incumbent Mark O'Connor was the only candidate to file for one of the two seats that are open on the Mountain View-based El Camino Hospital District Board of Directors as of the Aug. 13 filing deadline. The two open seats are those of O'Connor and Dianna Adair. O'Connor, who also serves as board treasurer, is completing his first four-year term on the board. According to Deborah Peck, executive assistant to hospital administrator and CEO Richard Warren, the district board has a process for appointing an individual to an unfilled board seat following a screening process. Should the district board choose not to make an appointment, it would be done by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, she said. According to Peck, no action would be taken until Adair's term expires on Dec. 3. - Town Crier Staff Report |
