Catalytica announces positive earnings

Catalytica, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTAL), a Town Crier Stock Index company based in Mountain View, has announced revenues of $188.2 million for the first half of 1998. This is substantially above the $12.5 million reported for the first half of 1997. Net income for the six months was $9.3 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $4.2 million, or $21 cents per share, in the first six months of 1997.

During the second quarter of 1998, Catalytica Pharmaceuticals announced an expansion of its supply agreement with Glaxo Wellcome. The original 5-year, $800 million agreement was an integral component of Catalytica's 1997 acquisition of Glaxo's manufacturing facility.

This month, Catalytica Pharmaceuticals announced a new agreement with CV Therapeutics (Nasdaq: CVTX) for supply of a sustained-release tablet form of Ranolazine, which is currently in Phase III clinical trails for treatment of angina.
