A new LAN, local area network, at the Los Altos Library offers patrons access to newspaper articles, computer periodicals and science information. The four databases available are:

Computer Select, full text and abstracts from more than 100 leading technology publications. Coverage is for the past 13 months.

Discovering Science, based on the "Gale Encyclopedia of Science," offers articles on subjects and people.

New York Times, text from January 1994 to June 1998.

San Jose Mercury News, text from January 1992 to March 1998.

The Friends of the Los Altos Library paid for the network.
