Robin Scholl has always dreamed of having her artwork become part of a museum collection. And soon it will.

Scholl and Jane McCullough, two Los Altos watercolorists who paint from their home studios, have been selected for the Biennial Statewide Watercolor Competition & Exhibition that will be on view from Sept. 2 to Nov. 5 at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara.

The juried work in the exhibition features 83 works by 57 artists from throughout the state.

"It's the first time I've had a piece in a museum, Scholl said. "It's one thing to sell your art. But it's another to be in a museum collection," she said. For her the honor is a dream come true.

Currently, the 46-year-old teaches art at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto. She has works for sale in the Nathan Gallery in Carmel and in the Greenleaf Gallery in Saratoga.

McCullough, 42, was in the show two years ago, but it is still a thrill for her to be in this show. She specializes in portraits.

"My greatest joy is in painting people," she said. She is also excited about a series of ballet paintings she is currently doing, one of which is included in the Triton show. She said she started painting dancers soon after her daughter began taking ballet.

There will be a reception honoring the artists from 7-9 p.m. next Tuesday. At that time the award winners will be announced and recognized by the Triton Museum, said Jill Meyers, a spokeswoman for the museum.

The museum is located at 1505 Warburton Ave., Santa Clara.
