A sparkling jewel: Wendy Eagan, director of Tiffany & Co. Palo Alto, had a lot to celebrate in addition to the first-year anniversary of the store at Stanford Shopping Center. Eagan and company awarded Linda Meier, community volunteer extraordinaire, the 1998 Tiffany Award in recognition of her dedicated volunteer leadership at the Peninsula Community Foundation and Stanford Medical Center to name just a few of the eight (yes-count 'em, EIGHT) boards that Linda serves on. Several Los Altos residents attended, including Maggie and Garth Wilson.

Jack's in: Jack Busch, president of Busch International, a Los Altos-based executive search firm, has been elected to the board of directors for Peninsula Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. This Los Altos Hills resident first was attracted to the organization because of the fabulous party, Vintage Affaire (take note, all die-hard party fans), but soon became enamored with the cause and the outstanding work it does for the community. Los Altos Hills resident Mimi Menard was also elected to the Board and will assist with fund raising.

It's for the kids: Los Altos Hills resident Steve Smith knew what a great combination golf, dinner and a good cause were. So, with a little help from his good friend and neighbor Bruce Avery, whose daughter Alida was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, he came up with an idea to sponsor a charity golf tournament to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. More than 300 guests attended the golf and dinner bash at Los Altos Golf & Country Club, including former 49er and Los Altos Hills resident Milt McColl and his wife Cindy, and Los Altos residents, Chip and Mary Lion.

Fur was flying: Charlie Knowles, Los Altos Hills resident and local contact for the Cheetah Conservation Fund, hosted a fund raiser at his home recently to raise money for the endangered cheetah.. Ken and Gabrielle Adelman donated $430,000 to purchase an additional 10,000-acre farm in Namibia for the foundation.

Forty and loving it: Nancy Steedman of Los Altos was honored with a surprise 40th celebration by her husband, Rod, at Fremont Hills Country Club for a cozy group of 140 of her friends and relatives, some of whom flew in from places as far away as England and Texas. And there was good cause for celebration. Not only was it Nancy's 40th birthday, but she has battled cancer over the past year, and everyone was ecstatic that this strong woman had emerged looking gorgeous, fit and ready for the next 40 years.
