4 candidates on November's ballot seek 3 positions on high school board

Four candidates are running for three, four-year terms on the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School Board of Trustees this November.

Incumbents Judy Hannemann and Sue Graham will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot as will newcomers David J. Williams and Catherine Knipe. Incumbent Rick Bell, who has served on the board for eight years, did not file candidacy papers.

Williams, 48, is a production control-logistics manager. He served on the Whisman School District Board of Trustees in Mountain View from 1992-1996.

He was chairman of the Whisman Schools District Strategic Planning Process in 1995. He served four years on the Board of Directors of Mountain View Little League and was a member of the Monta Loma Parent Booster Club and the Construction Review Committee for the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High district.

He is serving a second term on the board of directors for the Mountain View Babe Ruth baseball league.

Knipe is a system administrator at Stanford University and a part- time student working toward a business administration degree.

As a 21-year Mountain View resident, Knipe serves as a Mountain View Parks and Recreation commissioner. She was a member of the School Improvement Program at Mountain View High and supported development of the Mountain View Youth Advisory Committee.

Hannemann, 58, has served on the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School Board of Trustees since 1981. Prior to serving on the high school board, she was elected to the Los Altos School District board in 1977.

Hannemann, a Los Altos resident, has served as a legislative representative. She was a member of the school attendance review board, the regional occupational program board, the Santa Clara School Boards Association, the Community Health Awareness Council board, the district curriculum council and the district financial advisory board.

Graham, 57, is a retired information systems manager with Pacific Bell. She has served on the board for four years.

A Mountain View resident, Graham is a board member on the Community Health Awareness Council, a tutor at Los Altos High and a volunteer with the SHARE Food Program and the International Institute in Redwood City.

She was on the steering committee to pass the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High District's bond measure in 1995.
