Roadrunners race to second at Benfica Summer Classic

The Sunnyvale '87 Roadrunners, an under-12 girls CYSA select soccer team, finished second at the Benfica Summer Classic in Manteca Aug. 22-23.

Although the club team is based in Sunnyvale, half the roster is from Los Altos and Mountain View.

The Roadrunners lost to powerhouse Dublin 3-2 in overtime in the tourney's championship match.

The Roadrunners out-scored their opponents by an 11-3 margin in the four games they played.

The team also performed well at two other August Tournaments.

The Roadrunners were second in San Ramon - again losing out to Dublin - and took third in Turlock.

Area players on the Roadrunners include Diana Decesare, Hayley Finkelstein, Alicia Incerpi, Stephanie Lee, Dawn Maxey, Jessica Pecota, Jenny Phan, Daniela Roark and Natalie Seufferlein.

The team is coached by Homestead High girls soccer coach Frank Medina.

The Roadrunners start their league season this month.
