You'll almost be on time if you hurry. Sound familiar? This is a habit worthy of being changed if you value your life, those of your loved ones and those of others, say members of the Year of the Good Neighbor Committee. The Year of the Good Neighbor committee, based in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, is launching a campaign to encourage local residents to slow down on city streets. Committee members are looking to promote fall as a time to drive slower and more courteously. Unless posted otherwise, the speed limit on residential streets is 25 mph. The Coalition for Consumer Health and Safety recently conducted a poll in which 64 percent of the respondents said people are driving more dangerously and less courteously than they were five years ago. The committee challenges drivers to drive the speed limit this season so it becomes a habit.
