Los Altos police were continuing their search Monday for a man who exposed himself to students at Blach Junior High last week.

According to Blach principal Arthur Harris, a man approached three students sitting in front of the junior high after school Sept. 9 and exposed himself to them. The three girls told school personnel, who then called the police.

Los Altos police Sgt. Mark Macaulay said the police were still searching for the suspect last week but had no leads.

Police are looking for a middle-aged white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with blond-gray hair, wearing running shoes and a T-shirt with an environmental print on the front and large, gold-rimmed eyeglasses, according to police.

Harris said this is the first incident of this kind to occur at the school in the six years he has worked there.

He said the three students acted appropriately in the situation.

"They got away and made a lot of noise," he said.

He said the school took a swift and straight- ahead approach, notifying every student, their parents and neighboring schools about the incident and by making counselors available to students.

"I think we covered all the bases," Harris said. "It was an upsetting experience, but by the end of the day things had died down."

Harris said he has reminded all staff members to report suspicious persons immediately to the office and will continue to remind students the importance of leaving the campus promptly at the end of the day.

"An attitude of constant vigilance, awareness of possible problems and a good communication are also critical to maintaining this safe environment," Harris said in a letter addressed to parents after the incident.

Harris said he plans to schedule a presentation for parents called, "How We Supervise Our Children When They're Not With Us."
