FH golf wins opener

The Foothill College women's golf team beat its first two Coast Conference opponents Sept. 8 in match at Twelve Bridges. The Owls shot a 371 to beat Sierra College (389) and Butte College (403).

YMCA sign-ups

Registration is now underway for youth roller hockey at the El Camino YMCA in Mountain View. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to enroll in the league, which spans from Oct. 17 to Nov. 21. For more information, call the YMCA at 969-9622.

Scholarships offered

Athletic gear retailer Footaction USA is offering $100,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors who play sports. Applicants will be judged on the basis of financial need, class rank, standardized test scores and level of sports participation. The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 1999. VAA 8K Run & Walk

Vintage Athletic Association (VAA), a local nonprofit organization based in Woodside that promotes athletics for older adults, is presenting the Old Age/New Age Division 8K Run & Walk at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 26 at Gerry Mon Trail in San Mateo. There will be 16 age divisions. Applications are available at area running stores and by calling 851-2555. Competitors can also register on race day.

LA Boosters dinner

The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters will hold their fourth annual Oktoberfest dinner and auction from 6-11 p.m. Sept. 26. Dinner costs $35 per person and will be held at the home of Sue and John Sullivan. Proceeds will go to Los Altos High athletics for uniforms, awards and more. For more information, call 941-2322.
