ith new personnel at the skill positions, Los Altos High's wing-T offense has a different look this year. And so far, coach Ron Moser likes what he sees.

The Eagles, coming off their best season in at least a decade, won their season opener 31-0 last Saturday over out-manned St. Lawrence Academy.

Last year, Los Altos almost exclusively ran the ball out of the wing-T, even against opposing defenses that would stack its personnel on the line of scrimmage. But this season, the Eagles will throw.

Senior quarterback Jose Murillo threw a pair of touchdowns - of 25 and 23 yards - and ran for another as the Eagles dominated the host Celtics all afternoon. Murillo threw for 64 yards in all.

"It was a good season opener with solid defense and good kicking," Moser said. "But we're more balanced (offensively) this year and Murillo did very well."

Fullback Chris Mazurkiewicz and wingback Eric Handa both had big days, as the Eagles rushed for 316 yards.

Handa scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 23 and 13 yards. He finished with 78 yards on five carries and also caught a touchdown pass. Mazurkiewicz racked up 93 yards on 11 attempts.

Senior Alex Ware produced 13 of Los Altos' 31 points on a touchdown reception, a 20-yard field goal and four extra points.

Los Altos should face a tougher task at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Irvington.

Terra Nova edges MV

Mountain View opened it season with a tough loss to Terra Nova last Friday night at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Terra Nova's two-yard touchdown pass with 53 seconds remaining helped lift the visitors to a 14-13 win.

The Spartans (0-1) took a 13-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on a Ricardo Lopez two-yard touchdown run. But the extra point was blocked and that proved to be the difference in the game.

Tyler Ingersoll tallied Mountain View's first points on a three-yard run in the first quarter, giving the Spartans a 7-0 advantage.

Mountain View (0-1) hopes to rebound at 7 p.m. Friday at Sequoia High in Redwood City.

Aragon routs Mustangs

Homestead (0-1) fell behind 28-0 at halftime and never recovered in a 35-0 loss to Aragon last Friday in San Mateo. The Mustangs yielded 290 yards and gained only 160 yards of their own. Homestead had two scoring opportunities squelched by turnovers.

Homestead entertains Overfelt at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fremont High.
